Experience the thrill of Ocean Kayaking with our Kayak Tour of the 7 Caves and Ecological Reserve of La Jolla. Our most popular tour, the La Jolla Freefall Bike Tour, is a scenic ride that begins with a breathtaking 360 degree view from atop Mt. Soledad and then an exhilarating 4 mile descent towards Crystal Pier and the famous Pacific Beach boardwalk. Cruise around Mission Bay and then back to La Jolla for stops to look at the renowned Windansea surf break, the harbor seals at Children’s Pool, and La Jolla Cove, before we enter into Sunny Jim’s Cave, a historical prohibition cave. This tour is about 3 hours long.

Choose from one of our San Diego Bike Tours of Coronado, La Jolla, or enjoy our Downtown San Diego skyline at sunset on our Sunset Bike Tour. San Diego is famous for the outdoor lifestyle that entices so many people to visit, live, and enjoy our great city, and we would like to share it with you!

During the warm water months we offer seasonal tours like our Kayak and Snorkel Tour, where we swim with the sharks and in and around the sea caves. Join us this summer as we explore the underwater world with the ease of snorkeling. Swim with the Garibaldi, Shovel nose Guitar Fish, California Sea Lions, and the (harmless) Leopard Sharks.

La Jolla Ca.

Welcome to Sunny Jim Cave and Store located at 1325 Cave Street at La Jolla Cove in La Jolla.

Sunny Jim Cave is a very famous and historic place in La Jolla which began in 1902 and 1903 when a tunnel was dug to gain entrance to the cave area. The La Jolla Shores area actually has 6 caves which can be entered by water due to over 200,000 years of ocean waves crashing into the rock and sandstone cliffs that line the area. Sunny Jim Cave is the only cave which can be entered by land and the Sunny Jim Cave Store sits right above the cliffs as the entrance to the cave.

The caverns within the cave are rich with beautiful colorings from earthly mineral deposits, varing from the red of iron oxide, the black, greys and yellows of vegetable matter to the pinkish purple of iodine in the kelp.

Come take a voyage with us to this very popular place to visit and unique one of a kind place located right in the heart of La Jolla Village.

In 1902 cave owner Gustav Shultz hired laborers to use picks and shovels to dig the tunnel to the cave area. After almost 2 years of digging they made it and gave the cave to the general public. Several years later 145 stairs were added into the lighted tunnel.

The name “Sunny Jim Cave” came from Frank Baum the famous author of The Wizard of Oz. The cave opening bears a strking resemblance to W.W. Denslow’s character Sunny Jim who was a mascot for the British Force Wheat cereal products of the 1920’s.

Admission is $4.00 for adults and $3.00 for kids. Don’t forget to get your Sunny Jim Cave t-shirts with a beautiful picture of La Jolla Cove on the back.

Sunny Jim Cave is a great place to visit since it is close being in La Jolla and a true adventure walking down over 100 stairs down into La Jolla Cove. Make sure you bring a camera since this is a popular spot for taking phoots looking up the coast into Del Mar and as far as Oceanside.
